![]() ![]() While horror authors before Lovecraft tended to believe in the inherent goodness of mankind and the redemptive power of God, Lovecraft saw human beings as tiny insignificant creatures on a tiny insignificant planet hurling through cold, empty space. What, then, makes him so important? For me, the most significant thing about Lovecraft’s writing is the bleakness of its philosophy. He’s even been published by the Library of America, despite being exactly the kind of author that institution typically avoids. ![]() The mark Lovecraft left on horror is profound and inescapable. Lansdale, and Bentley Little) have cited him as an influence. He is the undisputed king of weird fiction, and countless writers (including Stephen King, Clive Barker, Ramsey Campbell, Neil Gaiman, Caitlín R. Lovecraft (1890-1937) has been mentioned on this blog more than any other author, and for good reason. ![]()
